Enroll Now >>>Clowns are the heart and personality of every circus. Connecting the audience to the stage: to clown is to engage, to invite, to explore, and inspire joy. You can fit a LOT of clowns in a car but you can’t fit one clown in a box. We are jugglers, dancers, musicians, puppeteers, and philosophers. Clowns can be loud, silent, bold, or timid, you could fill a book with possibilities. There isn’t just one skill to clowning, so we cover a lot of subjects!
A clown classic for a reason! Juggling is a timeless entertainment both for the watcher and the juggler. Everyday we will practice throwing, catching, dropping, and balancing props. At the end of the week bring home with you a set of juggling balls and a skill you will keep forever.
Since the medieval times of knights and queens jesters have relied on puppets. Kids will learn to build and animate objects through the magic of puppeteering. Throughout our camp we work on individual and collaborative puppets. Learning how to create basic and advanced shapes, paper maché, and the detailing and movement that bring them to life.
All the world's a stage especially if you're a clown! Kids will learn basic drama skills, and find their theatrical voice at camp. Through improv games, character creation, world building, and the making and performing of a spectacular one-of-a-kind showcase at the end of each week.
One of the most important skills a person can learn is how to feel comfortable in your own skin; physical movement plays a major role in developing that confidence. Together will find and play with our full range of motion, as we explore creative movement through floor exercises, dance, pantomime, mimicry, music, and games.
We end every week session with a show that parents and guardians are invited to. You'll see your child perform as a clown all the skills we learned in a low stakes and welcoming environment.
CLOWN CAMP is located at Mayday Space — 176 St Nicholas Ave, Brooklyn.
Located just a few blocks away from the DeKalb stop off the L. Mayday Space is both a neighborhood resource and a citywide destination for engaging programming, a home for community activism, and a welcoming gathering place for people and movements to work, learn, celebrate and build together.
